First American Law Center gets sued for Scams

According to Daily Pak, Krause, Kalfayan, Benink & Slavens, LLP filed a class action lawsuit against First American Law Center on behalf of a nationwide class of consumers. The California based company is alleged to have charged homeowners upfront fees for loan modification services. This practice violates a year-old law in California, California Civil Code Section 2944.7. The homeowners involved in the suit did not receive loan modifications or refunds from First American Law Center.

Effective on October 31, 2009, the California Legislature enacted Section 2944.7 to address the rising occurrences of consumer complaints about loan modification scams across the State. The law prohibits companies from charging upfront fees to perform loan modifications.
